Review: Mad Men - You'd Be Mad Not To Watch This TV Series
Yet another excellent TV series from AMC, Matthew Weiner's Mad Men takes TV to a whole new level. Ever since it first aired back in 2007, people have been talking about this show. The good news is Mad Men is yet to air for at least one season, the sixth so far.
Mad Men recreates the sixties as it depicts the fast-paced life of Donald Draper, a creative director at one of the advertising agencies based in NYC's renowned Madison Avenue. Donald Draper (Don) is the part that gained Jon Hamm's recognition and boosted his career by bringing him an Emmy Award. Don starts as creative director at the Sterling Cooper agency, but as the series unfolds, he partners the former employers to create Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.
Mad Men's central character, Don Draper, is actually based, at least partly, on the life of Draper Daniels, Leo Burnett's creative director during the fifties and the man responsible for the Marlboro Man advertising campaign everybody knows. Don is a very mysterious man and only as the series unfolds, Don's flashbacks and the few times he actually talks about his past shed some light over who is in fact Don Draper. Assuming a false identity, Don is running away from a past that could potentially harm him if it became public knowledge.
AMC's Mad Men has been exceptionally well received by both the public and the critics. Winning 15 Grammys so far, including the special Outstanding Drama Series award, as well as multiple other awards, the series is one of the most successful TV Shows created by AMC to date. Mad Men does an excellent job in depicting the sixties as well as in keeping viewers utterly absorbed with the story and characters. Everything from the costumes to the lead and support characters to the storyline is perfectly fine-tuned to offer viewers an experience hard to forget. Mad Men is even considered to have influenced current trends in the fashion industry, and once you start watching this series you will understand how a TV show can have such an impact on current trends.
