- DVR
- Abbreviation of Digital Video Recorder and also known as PVR (personal video recorder). The term refers to a device that has a built in hard drive to store programming on the set-top box. Users can then pause and rewind broadcasts from cable or satellite TV providers and includes a live pause feature.
The DVR was made popular by TiVo and replaced the older video recorders (VCR). Many manufacturers supply a DVR as part of the receiver for cable and satellite programming.
A DVR incorporates an electronic program guide (EPG) to allow users to select and record content to be recorded.
