So you have finally seen the light and decided that cable and satellite companies have been on the gravy train (funded by you) for way too long. A succession of rising prices, lousier content and endless channels that you never watch have finally broken your TV spirit. You want out, you want to tell them where to stick the set-top box, you want...Freedom. Well now you can have it as we explore the best ways and options to cut the cord (http://www.worldtvpc.com/glossary/Cutting-The-Cord_Definition.htm).

Hardware - We will explore different connected TV and set-top box options (http://www.worldtvpc.com/blog/how-to-choose-the-best-media-streamer/) such as the Apple TV box, Roku, Boxee and Android devices and find the one which is right for you.

Free streaming - There are plenty of (legal) websites offering free streaming that includes TV shows, movies and internet based TV channels (http://www.worldtvpc.com/onlinevideosites/?cat=Internet+TV). Although many free websites tend to offer older and crappier content, there is also plenty of good stuff around such as catch-up TV networks (http://www.worldtvpc.com/onlinevideosites/?cat=Catchup+TV+Networks).

Paid Services - So everyone either has or knows someone with a Netflix account, but for most of us it is not a cable replacement. Content not new enough, no brand new shows and movies for a year or so. But Netflix can be topped up with other pay services (http://www.worldtvpc.com/onlinevideosites/?cat=Pay+to+View) such as rentals and purchases from iTunes, Google Play amongst others.

TV Apps - Everyone owns a mobile or tablet and unless your really unlucky it will be an Android, Apple (iOS) or Windows 8 based device. You can download a number of apps (http://www.worldtvpc.com/mobile/index.php) that are both free and paid that will supply an endless amount of streaming action to your mobile device.
