Warner Bros. made an official announcement Monday and said the release of the much anticipated 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel, ‘The Great Gatsby’, has been postponed until next year.
Starring DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, and Joel Edgerton, the film was originally scheduled to air on the Christmas Day this year. However, the release date of the film has now been moved to the summer of 2013 and it’s believed to be in the May-August period.
This was confirmed by Warner Bros. President of International Distribution, Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, as she stated ‘The Great Gatsby’ will be “the perfect summer movie around the world”. She also said the film director, Baz Luhrmann surprised the world by making the move 3D and managing to capture the emotion, intimacy and power of that time. Thus the responses they had of the early sneak peeks have been amazing and they expect moviegoers of all ages to embrace it.
According to Dan Fellman, the president of distribution, Baz Luhrmann has done an incredible job and “It truly brings Fitzgerald’s American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exciting way”.
Taking all those facts into consideration, they decided to ensure the film will reach the highest audience possible. This move is very likely to increase the film’s commercial potential and it will free up the very crowded December schedule for this year, which included another highly anticipated film, “The Hobbit”, as well as “Les Miserables”, “Jack Reacher”, “The Impossible” or “Django Unchained”, yet another movie where Leonardo DiCaprio is starring.
