Toyota Motor Set to Offer Its Hydrogen Fuel Cell Patents for Free

The Toyota car company made an announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas 2015 concerning hydrogen fuel cell patents that sanctioned the car-maker company and other companies to access this hydrogen fuel cell royalty-free which was produced by Toyota.

Toyota Motor Hydrogen Fuel Cell CarBob Carter, Toyota’s senior vice president said, in this year between 2015 to 2020, the company will produce fuel cell patents accessible to every companies and manufacturers in connection to car making companies. Fuel cell buses and industrial equipment will be made available for more than 5,600 fuel cells. Not only for companies and manufacturers but they are also intended for those who sell fuel cell vehicles and its parts as suppliers. Also, for other related companies, an evaluation will take place if certain company will qualify to avail the patents.

This is the first time ever that Toyota will make its patents royalty-free as a basis to other companies to share their fuel cell patents for free.

“The first-generation hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, launched between 2015 and 2020, will be critical, requiring a concerted effort and unconventional collaboration between automakers, government regulators, academia and energy providers,” Carter said in a speech at CES.

How Hydrogen Fuel Works

Fuel cells work by chemical fusion reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, which of course, you know, becomes water. But the electrical generation comes from the initial chemical reaction of hydrogen as it passes through the electrolytes where it creates a positive ion and an electron particle, which engineers harvest and use to power electric cars and other things. Fuel cells vary in design and power output and, in fact, it has been considered as a good fuel source for deep space travel as well as interplanetary and interstellar travel; however, the design is not complete yet and therefore may not be efficient for such purposes. So testing it here on Earth for decades (probably) would be a good thing as it will teach us a lot of things and help us improve the designs for future use.

For fuel cell vehicles not owned by Toyota, the patents royalty-free will only be available within 2015 to 2020 while for those hydrogen fuel cell productions and for those productions completely owned by Toyota remains infinitely free. This is an excellent news for both old and new car manufacturers as well as start-up tech companies who want to venture into the industry also. We can expect to see dozens of achievements starting 2015 onwards, because of this bold and selfless move by Toyota.

Bob Carter also said that his company will supply subsistence funding for the assistance of promoting the infrastructure in California and in the northeastern United States. Lately, on May 2014, the company disclosed a loan of $7.3 million for developing hydrogen fueling based in California Newport Beach First Element Fuel Company to give support to 20 fueling stations on the state. And also, Toyota declared of teaming up to French multinational Air Liquide to provides supply of mostly 12 hydrogen fuel cell station for New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

The Walkman Is Back – Sony Introduces The Walkman ZX2 at CES 2015

Sony has unveiled a new model of its classic walkman series at the Consumer Electronics Show 2015. In the past year, many had speculated that Sony would be revising the Walkman.

The Walkman is Back from SonyThe new Walkman ZX2 is priced at a whooping $1200. It was designed keeping high-end audiophiles in mind. As Sony says, this is “the fruit of continuous refinement in high audio quality technologies.”

The device supports high resolution audio playback and is packed with WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC for wireless streaming and connections to wireless speakers and headphones.

Many have fallen for the new design which resembles a smartphone having a matte black casing. The playback buttons are placed on a curved side, which is quite convenient for finger placement when holding the device.

Featuring a touchscreen, the Android-powered device supports Android apps which can be downloaded from the App Store. Android Jellybean 4.2 is run on the device which is two years old.

The reason for its hefty price tag is its S-Master HX processor. It enables high-resolution audio, but requires high-resolution audio supported headphones or speakers.

A variety of audio formats are supported by the ZX2 including DSD, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, Apple Lossless and much more.

Last year’s Walkman, the NZW, had an 8-hour battery life and was waterproof. The ZX2 however has an impressive 60 hours music playback time of battery life. It has an internal memory of 128 GB and a microSD slot for extra storage.

Sony has not yet made clear when and where the new Walkman will be available for sale.

Fandango to Launch Their Internet TV shows on a Dedicated Hulu Channel – CES 2015

Fandango, mostly known for its ticketing service on the web and for mobile devices for cinema viewings, has also been creating its own TV shows. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday last week, their service announced that its TV shows will soon, in the coming months hopefully, be showing on the Internet streaming service Hulu on a dedicated channel.

Fandango with a Hulu partnershipThis is Fandango’s first partnership with an on-demand video streaming service that runs on subscriptions.

Fandango’s movie focused shows will be featured on a new channel on Hulu. The awards-focused interview show called Frontrunners will also be included. Within the first three months of 2015, the new channel is scheduled to go live. It is not only available to paying subscribers, but to anyone who visits Hulu’s site.

The vice president of business development and strategy, Mark Young, said that this is the next step in the company’s strategy to create videos that can be played on “any form factor or platform”.

“Our goal is to be wherever there’s conversations about movies, with partners that have scale and are in the right context,” he said.

Fandango could strike similar deals with other similar Internet TV streaming services. Since Hulu is largely about TV discovery, Young said it makes sense for Hulu to be a starting point. Fandango is owned by NBCUniversal which also backs Hulu.

Young said that by creating shows Fandango can move beyond being a simple utility. It gives certain benefits as it leads people to buy movie tickets from the company and helps bring in some money from ads.

Fandango say that views of original video content on the service has increased by 38 percent year-over-year.
So even though that is a really impressive growth figure, this new strategy might be paying of, and with new partnerships they might increase the views even more.

Samsung To Introduce New All-In-One Curved Screen PC – Ativ One 7 Curved

Samsung Group seems to have all sorts of new and innovative electronic devices planned for launch in this upcoming year. One of the tech industry conglomerate’s newest products that it plans to reveal at the CES 2015 is its new all-in-one curved screen pc.

Samung Ativ One 7 CurvedThis latest Samsung PC invention is being called the Ativ One 7 Curved. This ground-breaking new desktop PC features a curved display monitor, and Samsung claims that this Ativ One 7 is the very first all-in-one PC to have the famed curved display.

And then a few months ago, Samsung released a 27-inch curved monitor for desktop computers.

The new Ativ One 7 Curved includes that curved monitor and also has a whole PC built around it. It is a 27-inch monitor and has a 1080p HD resolution. The PC itself is running an Intel Core i5 processor, a TB hard disk drive, 8GB of RAM , and the operating system is Windows 8.1 64-bit version.

A few other added attributes include Dolby Sound Effects, a 1080p HD webcam, HDMI input/output, and APT-X lossless audio transmission technology which is a technology that enhances sound from its dual 10-watt speakers. Samsung smartphone users can use the Samsung company’s patented SideSync 3.0 software to make phone calls, and they can also receive and view their text messages on the computer’s curved screen.

The Ativ One 7’s curvy monitor design helps to lessen screen glare and is more immersive than a normal pc monitor. When the new Samsung curved PC is finally released onto the market, it will have a selling price of $1299.99. The company is planning the Ativ One 7 Curved’s initial launch in the first quarter of 2015.

LG To Reveal The World’s First FreeSync-Supported Monitor

Technology and gaming fans alike will be pleased to hear about the latest product that tech industry giant LG is planning to unveil at CES 2015. The company has announced its plans to reveal its all-new ultra-wide gaming monitor that supports AMD’s FreeSync technology. This new technologically advanced display will be the world’s first monitor ever made to support the AMD FreeSync technology.

LG with freesync-supportThe AMD FreeSync is a monitor technology that aids in the synchronization of the refresh rates of both the monitor’s display and graphic cards, which results in the elimination of “stuttering frame issues” and annoying “screen tearing.” AMD finally released its new FreeSync support in its Catalyst Omega driver, which was loaded with tons of new and innovative features.

Very soon after the AMD FreeSync technology launch, Samsung announced its plans to release its new line-up of 4K televisions that would be compatible with the open source software, but LG’s new monitor will be the first-ever display to actually support the AMD FreeSync technology. At the present, LG is calling this new and improved monitor the 34UM67, and it is said to be a 34-inch monitor display with an ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio.

LG has reported that it will be targeting its new 34UM67 model specifically towards the gaming population. The LG 34UM67 is just one the company’s newest monitor models for the new year. Apparently, LG also has at least 3 other new monitor models it is planning to reveal at the CES 2015.

Although LG is only releasing so much information about the innovative new monitor model, it has been dropping hints about certain features such as “Black Stabilizer” and “Dynamic Action Sync,” which reduces input lag. These specs were mentioned in the company’s press release, but more in-depth details such as screen resolution, type of panel, refresh rate, inputs, and most of all– price were purposely left out. Hopefully more of these details will surface at the official CES 2015 unveiling.
