Finally Happening after years of Kevin Bacon preaching to British audiences on the virtues of the company’s streaming capabilities on mobile devices, communications giants EE have now launched their own home TV service… internet-powered, of course.
The new service sees EE launch both their branded set-top box (priced at £300 on launch), and a subscription TV contract incorporating the first (free for EE Broadband customers paying £9.95/month or more).
Compatible on both mobiles and tablet computers in app form as well as through the main set, users will be able to enjoy the service on no less than 4 simultaneous devices via multi-screen, with access to 70 Freeview channels and relative On Demand/Catch Up services, including a back catalogue of over 10,000 TV shows and movies on-demand.
EE said of their first-ever standalone TV platform: “The powerful TV service incorporates a companion app that delivers the simplicity of a smartphone or tablet touch screen experience. This enables instant, easy access to a menu that includes the TV guide, recordings and On Demand services.”
Also offering a bonus ‘4G data bump’ to contracts of broadband subscribers taking on the TV service, will EE’s new venture be able to find success in a busy market? A preview of what they now offer can be seen below:
And should you already be the owner of one of these new boxes, but with no idea on how to get it into a watchable state:
