Quick Verdict - WorldTVPC Rating: WorldTVPC Rating 4.0 (4.0)

Hulu is a great service for American users. There are a lot of exclusive videos and top quality productions that can be accessed for free to be found there and as the service aggregates content from the main networks, it is a simple, single stop to catch-up with missed TV shows..

In the world of online video streaming many websites and video services attempt to specialize on a certain type of video delivery or on a specific video niche. Thankfully, Hulu, and its paid service Hulu plus are not like that. Hulu is a high quality, free video-on-demand website while Hulu plus is a subscription-based service (which also includes commercials) that offers even more content and over-the-top broadband video delivery to your TV. Hulu is a huge company by its own right, powered by giant corporations such as Disney, Fox and Comcast. The company has been growing fast and is now a serious contender in the world of online videos.

Available on multiple platforms

The free version of Hulu, as well as Hulu plus, is compatible with a wide variety of platforms. You can access Hulu (and Hulu plus) from platforms such as Roku, and Apple TV, and all kinds of modern media devices including all smartphones, TiVos, Blu-ray video players, smart TV boxes and more. Hulu can also be accessed via ALL modern video gaming consoles including Wii, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The final bit is very important because very few other video services include support for all three current-generation Nintendo gaming platforms (Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS).Additionally, there are plans for Hulu to become compatible with every single internet-connectible device type in the near future.

Great variety and versatility

Hulu offers all kinds of premium video content from many leading video providers including all Fox channels, all NBC channels, all Disney channels, all MTV channels (including Nickelodeon), the National Geographic channel, the Biography channel and finally videos from Public Broadcasts. Not only that, but Hulu sports a lot of exclusives, series that aren’t found anywhere else and many special productions and extras. Hulu streams TV shows, full-length movies, web series, trailers from upcoming movies, and behind the scenes specials on top of their syndicated content from the broadcast giants listed above, making it extremely varied and versatile.

Premium quality content (even for free users)

Hulu offers its users, even the non-subscribers, a lot of premium quality content with unrestricted access. This includes Hulu original series and productions exclusive to Hulu, as well as video content from other countries (i.e. from UK) that is otherwise unavailable to the US.

Only accessible from the US and Japan

Arguably the single biggest drawback of Hulu is that it is currently only accessible from the US or Japan (paid version). This effectively bars the majority of internet users from (legally) accessing Hulu’s content and also restricts US and Japanese citizens from watching TV on their smartphones while traveling abroad. If you are a person that travels frequently outside the US and wishes to stay in touch with their favorite TV shows then Hulu is probably not for you. However, all Hulu video content is archived and can be accessed at a later date, so there is no big harm done.

Hulu, and its paid counterpart Hulu plus, are great for American and Japanese users. There are a lot of exclusive videos and top quality productions that can be accessed for free to be found there. Even the premium series that require an active subscription eventually become available for free through Hulu. The website is new and is growing rapidly, backed by some of the world’s most powerful media companies. The future will probably see Hulu rise in power and achieving worldwide reach, seriously threatening the currently established “giants” of online video.
