Quick Verdict - WorldTVPC Rating: WorldTVPC Rating 4.0 (4.0)

For the viewer that watches infrequently, the Amazon Instant Video service is a winner as you only pay for what you want to watch. A big selection means you will always find the content you want.

Amazon Instant Video is a video on demand service from Amazon, available only to citizens of the United States. It is the prime competitor to Netflix, the only other service that really delivers that much video content as Amazon Instant Video does. Amazon Instant Video can be used to hire and buy content or used as part of the Amazon Prime membership, which also includes instant access to thousands of kindle books, adding an extra bonus to Amazon Instant Video users who also own a kindle.

Thousands of movies and TV shows

The sheer quantity of HD movies and videos available is staggering and on a par with iTunes. There are tens of thousands of movies and TV shows readily available and easily browsable in Amazon Instant Video databanks. These movies include blockbusters as well as popular TV shows.

Only available in the US

Sadly, Amazon Instant video is available only within the US. If you plan on traveling abroad and want something to watch on the airplane then itís too bad because Amazon Instant Video is not available the moment you step outside American soil.

Not compatible on all platforms

Broadband means that Amazon Instant Video is only available for platforms that can handle speeds of 800 kb/s and up. This excludes all smartphones as well as numerous other media devices. Amazon Instant Video can be accessed only from your computers, iPads, certain TV sets and only the most powerful gaming platforms. Amazon Instant Video is also accessible through net-enabled blu-ray drivers and streaming services such as Roku.

Amazon's Instant Video is the only serious competitor to iTunes right now. The quality of their video library is top notch and the library itself is rather sizable. Amazon Instant Video also seems a little cheaper on some titles.

Summary: Rip-off prices and you never own the goods
Review: I agree that both music, books and movies cost pretty much the same as the physical goods which is an absolute joke. But even worse is the fact that you lose all rights to your purchases when you die. I would just stick with Prime and get free movies as well as shipping.

Summary: No ads is good but prices too high
Review: Although some of the Amazon Instant Video catalog has lower prices or on par with iTunes, why are they so high? No packaging, no distribution costs but still about the same cost to buy or hire as physical discs???
