Roku is extremely affordable Internet media streamer that makes accessing popular Internet channels from your television very easy.
Roku, as an Internet television streamer, thats becoming very popular. The little box they provide makes it easier for users to download their favorite television shows and movies to view on their television screen. The purpose of Roku is to stream video content from the Internet onto your television. Roku allows users to select channels that are distributed over the Internet Compared to the many streamers available; Roku is one of the better devices. Currently it supports Netflix, Amazon Prime and additional Hulu support is planned in the future. These features alone make it an attractive alternative.
Setting up Roku
Roku is very affordable and can be purchased for about $100. Roku can be purchased directly from them or through Amazon.com. Even higher end models can be purchased for about $100 with the lower-end models, at about $60, this will be fine for most users. Those who use Netflix and Amazon.com frequently will enjoy this device. Roku is very small and can be held in one hand. Users will find an Ethernet cable and power adapter included; wireless capabilities are already built in. Setting up your Roku will be fairly painless. You can expect it to take approximately 15 minutes. Simply select the wireless networks you have available and you will be connected. A software update may be necessary in the beginning for some. Downloading the software updates will take place very quickly, but once the update has been completed you will need to locate wireless connections once again.
Users will be asked to create a Roku account that must take place on the computer; it is impossible to create an account from your television as with some streamers. This is the only way to link your account to your player. This may be irritating for some, but we found very little issues with it. Accounts can also be created for mobile devices, but the bottom-line is your account must be created using a Web browser in order to link your player. Additionally, a computer or mobile device will also be needed to enable Netflix and Amazon channels and also answer generated code from your Roku account. Once your Roku account has been linked to your Roku device, you must choose the type of television screen you are using.
Channels available with Roku
From the Roku home screen, users will be able to select channels that have been set up previously. Roku has a variety of channels available in their channels store, but Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Prime are available by default. In fact, the main point of the Roku devices is to allow users an easy way to tune into these three important internet channels easily. Actually, users may find many of the channels available in the channel store; these are the three most important channels. However, being able to view these three channels easily through a television is one of the more appealing features of this device.
Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime
If you are not familiar with any of these services, their popular Internet subscription that provide unlimited access to thousands of television shows and movies that users can watch at their convenience at a very nominal fee. The cost of these three services vary slightly, but all are streaming affordable and worth checking into. Deciding whether or not you should sign-up for one of these three services is really a no-brainer; particularly if you are a hard-core video viewer and have chosen to purchase a Roku. These services make watching videos on your computer very easy. But now that you have purchased a Roku device, itís now very easy to take advantage of these subscription video services by watching unlimited movies and television programs on your TV. In fact, Roku makes these services so easy to access itís surprising these three services do not sell this device to their users. Perhaps they will in the future. Unfortunately, there is little support for iTunes rentals with this device. Although we recommend the Roku device, if iTunes is your immediate choice for video viewing, another device may be a better option for you. But the support Roku provides for Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, and Netflix is outstanding.
Of all the many available Internet streamers on the market today, Roku seems to be one of the most affordable. While many of the other streamers will allow you to create an account for your television screen, using Roku will require returning to your computer repeatedly during use and setup. We feel this is a small price to pay concerning how easy the device is the use. Once Roku provides support for iTunes, all major Internet video subscription services will be supported. However, there are no recording capabilities with this device; its main purpose is to make accessing important Internet channels on your television as easy as possible. At this task, Roku succeeds!
