Online TV (Where?)

I have just arrived internet lagged after a stressful past week trying to find the right kind of service for me.

What it is I recently cut my UK bill from £75 to £0 so the movies went, the sports went, the HD pack went. This is not about money I am just sick to death of SKY so I decided to cut it all off.

I have been an avid PC user since say 2001 and spent a lot of my time on the PC, so I felt it was time for a change and look into internet TV. I will be truthful and say all I have done for the past 4-5 years is download in HD. I just don't really use my TV too much as I'm on the PC all the time and I downloaded many of my programmes 1 hour after it aired in the US.

I am bored of downloading TV-Series in HD and I cut my SKY bill completely. I don't really want to use sites like Hulu, Netflix etc as I don't want to watch everything there is to watch. What I want to do is find an internet TV service.

I was using Liveonlinefooty years ago and then FlashSportStreams the latter seems to have been taken down. They both had an interesting lineup of sports and entertainment channels. I have recently signed up to Futubox Beta, it's not great to be honest, as it lacks the channels I would actually watch.

So I was wondering if there are any services online to compensate losing SKY? I can't see any of them being free, but if I can watch SKY Sports, SKY Movies, SKY One, SKY Atlantic etc online live it would be pretty good. I was also interested in having a lineup of American/USA TV channels too. Maybe separately as I doubt there is a service that would offer both on the same lineup. It's something that interests me. Why download when I can watch them live is my point? I have been looking around and found that the public streams are just not up to standard and unreliable. The services that claim to have 3500 HD channels are just free streams that can be found on the internet so it's not worth my time paying for that.

I'm just hoping you guys can help me find a service free or subscription based that can offer me a package of UK or US TV live in good quality? I did find American TV 2 Go but that's really expensive although the quality is pretty sweet.

Hi Daniel

Unfortunately what you want will never be available free and legally. For Sky channels you can watch online using Sky Go service, but for non subscribers you can only use an illegal restream that someone has set up. Unfortunately these are both hard to find and get shut down all the time. For TV channels you can use a catch-up service and change your IP to access US channels.

Anything you can buy, like the satellite for PC packages are all complete shit, so your stuck with either using a Lovefilm or Netflix to stream older seasons of shows, or use a torrent/P2P site and download whatever you want to the hard drive.

I dont know about the services you mention but im assuming they are on the grey side of legal, good luck with finding something though.

I will have to hope Futubox Beta adds some new UK satellite channels at the end of this month, as that is the only really place where the content is in high quality, the service is just damaged by the lack of available channels.

Lovefilm,Netflix,Hulu would be great if I wanted to have a catchup service or to watch many TV shows/Movies. But I don't really want to do that. It's a last resort, I know how wonderful these kind of services are but they are not for me.

I have one option at the moment and that's to rent a Slingbox from the US. I will get all the US programming for a subscription cost. It's not about money. Quality is quality and that's what I hope to get. I would prefer a live TV service and if I must pay I will have to do just that. I will be given a demo later this evening so I can make sure the content is as advertised.

If the slingbox goes well I may also buy a Boxee Box or a WD TV just to satisfy family members/friends if they come over. I can't expect them to be crowding around a 23 inch monitor lol.

As for the Satellite for PC Packages yeah I totally agree, and I'm not just avoiding them because of the reviews and hate towards the services, it's mainly down to knowing they are free streams and the quality is piss poor.

You have to face the fact that you will never get as good and up to date a service as either satellite or cable. If your going the online route then your options are Netflix/Hulu, but you will have older content. Then you can download from iTunes or Google Play Store, expensive and you have to wait for download. Your only real option is to trawl the torrent sites and download your shows/movies, but there is the risk of viruses, fake movies that install shit on your PC, and long download times due to throttling.... Another option is to use something like Hola that lets you watch any catch-up service from anywhere in the world. So if your in the UK just load up Hulu, ABC etc. or sign up to Netflix and see the much bigger range of US content. Read about Hola here.
