YouView Set-top Box Specs Include Twin Tuner, 320GB HDD and WiFi
The much anticipated YouView set-top boxe, which are set for launch in early 2012, will each have on board at least a 320GB hard disc drive for recording TV, together with 500MB of Ram to help stutter free streaming, according to the organisation.
The basic technical specifications of YouView’s settop boxes have been revealed by the IPTV organisation.
CEO of YouView, Richard Halton said: “We’re delighted to confirm the final launch specification for YouView to help any manufacturer develop a connected TV device.”
“Through promoting common technical standards for connected TV, consumers will get the widest possible range of devices supporting high quality content.”
YouView has announced details of the manufacturers of the settop boxes, with the four new hardware partners of Huawei, Manhattan, Pace and Vestel joining Humax, Cisco and Technicolor in the line up.
Twin tuner YouView PVRs, YouView settop boxes, when they start to ship, will likely be powered by the linux operating system.
Connections on the settop boxes will include at least one HDMI and one Scart socket, and two USB ports, with an ethernet socket along with 802.11n wifi for connection to home broadband networks.
Viewers are going to be able to view one TV channel while recording another channel, thanks to YouViews minimum requirement for two DVBT/T2 tuners.
Although YouView is set to launch in early 2012, the company have been hit by a series of delays resulting in Alan Sugar taking over the hotseat. With him on board hopefully this deadline will be met.
