Youtube video watching improves DVD sales

montypython Youtube video watching improves DVD salesAfter years of lawsuit action from Movie and TV companies. Youtube have now shown that by playing video clips, they actually improve sales.

Recently, the eccentric comedy classic team ‘Monty Python’ launched a Youtube channel showing clips of their shows and movies. And after a short time of being on the video website sales of Monty Python DVD’s have increased.

Youtube say on their blog:- “When Monty Python launched their channel in November, not only did their YouTube videos shoot to the top of the most viewed lists, but their DVDs also quickly climbed to No. 2 on Amazon’s Movies & TV bestsellers list, with increased sales of 23,000 percent.”

Of course the Monty Python channel is an official licensed channel and the beef previously with Youtube has been the showing of pirated content. It does go to show that by having free content available, encourages demand and increases sales.

Pop and Rock bands such as Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have shown that people will buy music even if they can get it for nothing. Viewers also buy box sets and DVD’s of shows that are freely available on TV.

However the Movie and TV companies still insist on removal of any unauthorised video content posted on popular video sites in a vain attempt to have complete control over their content. Viacom are also still pursuing a lawsuit with YouTube due to showing of video’s from South Park and other TV shows.

It now makes perfect sense for the stuck up and overbearing studio’s to realise that all publicity is good publicity and work with Youtube rather than against it.
