Youtube Expand Movie Section With Over 400 Full Length Movies

Youtube began dabbling last year with movie offerings, the selection was limited though. But now a revamped free movies category on the video site currently offers 400 free full length movies.

Youtube Movies has lots of films sorted in categories such as Action & Adventure, Comedy, Bollywood or Horror.

Free movie offerings are often associated with “middle of the road” content, and whilst Youtube Movies does have its share of that it also offers a few that at least some watchers will enjoy.

The Action fans among you will find lots of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee movies for instance, which are watchable. As are some of the animations like Animal Farm or Alice in Wonderland. Still, the vast majority of movies can more than likly be put into the “B movies” category at this point.

Not all movies on display on the frontpage are available for users from all countries. That’s a bit unfortunate, as the dreaded “this video is not available in your country” message may appear after clicking on a movie on the movies overview page.

Even more surprising is the adult nature of some of these movies that including strong language, nudity and gore. But to watch any of these movies require a sign in first which will apparently prove your old enough!

Most films offered in the movie section are free to watch although some show up as rentals, this then suggests that the long term goal is a movie platform that combines free to watch movies along with movie rentals.

I think with the dominant position they hold, Youtube should be streaming all catch up and tv streams. That would make Youtube a one-stop destination for watching tv either on computer or connected devices, and the tv stations would still get advertising revenue.
