Youtube Boss Predicts 75% Of All TV Will Be Internet Streamed By 2020
It comes as no surprise that the vice president of content for Youtube predicts big growth for online video. However, Robert Kyncl speaking at the CES keynote speech made some compelling arguments to back him up.
Kyncl, who was previously employed by Netflix and saw the company evolve from DVD rentals to streaming, predicted that by 2020, 75% of all TV programming will be transmitted or streamed via the web. He also said that in a few years, watching streaming video will account for 90% of all online traffic.
Of course, Kyncl has an agenda, and that is to push Youtube as the future of TV, and he did a pretty good job. Youtube received around a trillion hits during 2011 and expect additional growth in 2012. They are investing $100 million in original content designed to change peoples perception of the video website.
Kyncl who said the web was the biggest development in TV since the introduction of cable, said that internet video consumption has the potential to draw an audience that standard TV can only dream of. And of course Google plan to be a major part of this new era.
