YouTube Comes Alive With New Live Streaming Service

Google Giant YouTube has began to stream live content using new service, YouTube Live, an Internet broadcasting video service for streaming content live that will incorporate sports services and maybe even live TV.

The new service which is part of Youtubes goal of becoming a premium content destination is going to be available for selected YouTube partners only to begin with, with the aim of increasing availability for thousands of users over the next few months.

The live streams will need to be scheduled and unfortunately the times are always going to be listed for the time zone where the stream is being recorded, this might confuse international users, but they can be put into a calender.

Currently there is Indian Premier League Cricket, a gaming network and a Stanford University lecture but not much else. YouTube has broadcast live content before including music concerts, sports event and interviews, but only as a one time thing.

The service is bound to threaten rival sites such as ustream.tv, which currently offers live services, largely due to YouTube’s massive user base and its widely recognised brand.

Whether or not the YouTube Live service will rival broadcast and cable TV is another question. The partners who provide the content will be, of course, a key element to the service’s success.

Most of these partners are American media companies such as ABC and Fox Sports so it is likely that this content will be restricted to the US.

Youtube is becoming more accessible on many more devices other than the traditional computer. For example, smart TVs are now including YouTube as ‘premium content’ alongside normal TV programmes.
