Youtube Advertise Full Length Shows The Traditional Way

Youtube is already insanely popular in every country of the world, mainly due to short videos of people falling over, throwing up or funny cats in action. However Google (owner of Youtube) have decided to advertise in a conventional way in the UK

It is thought that as Youtube is going down the full length free to view video route, they want to push this fact to any unsuspecting public that dont already know. Youtube plan on bringing many more full episodes and movies to the previously short video site, and started with the Channel 4 back catalogue deal last month that allows it to stream over 3000 hours of top shows such as Peep Show, Derren Brown’s Events and Gordon Ramsay’s F Word amongst others. Both Channel 4 and Youtube will share advertising revenue generated.

Channel 4′s Youtube channel contains over 5000 videos, of which almost 4,000 are full length shows. The full line up which will be funded by advertising at the beginning, middle and end, will be available early 2010. Channel 4 are also making its catchup service, 50 hours of programming a week, available to watch on YouTube, as well as a big portion of its archives. For example there are 66 episodes of Shameless and 40 episodes of Teachers.

There are available on Youtube more full length content from over 60 partners including Doctor Who episodes dating from 1964 to 1984, sci-fi series Day of the Triffids, and 32 episodes of the impressions show Dead Ringers which come from the BBC.

Broadcasters and production companies are being wooed onto YouTube, after it cleaned up its act removing unauthorised videos that used to be a big part of the site.

With tighter regulation of breaches of copyright, there is increased confidence that the site’s huge audience can provide the TV industry with a financial opportunity as it strives to make money out of online viewing.

With the slogan “YouTube’s got TV”, the campaign will feature advertisements on the sides of buses and inside underground trains, along with full-page print ads in publications, including one in today’s Guardian. There will also be online ads to support the campaign.

In a further advertising stunt to engage the public, next month YouTube will be taking over a shop front near Carnaby Street in London’s West End, where passers by will be able to choose programmes to watch on big screen tv sets.

“We know that YouTube users enjoy the huge range of content on the site, but there’s a growing demand in particular for full-length programming – so this campaign aims to tell our users that the full-length TV content has now arrived,” said Anna Bateson, the YouTube director of marketing. “The Shows section of the site is a major new opportunity for our partners and advertisers to reach new audiences.”

Although you would imagine Youtube as the last website to need advertising as it already has traffic that eclipses any other site on the planet. Every company has an advertising budget to use up.
