Yahoo TV Widgets Coming To You Via All Kinds Of Devices Soon
Yahoo promised that internet tv widgets would be the big thing of 2009,. It hasnt quite happened yet, but they are now upping the ante by launching a new TV Widget chip that can be installed in set-top boxes and other hardware for those of us with non connected TV’s.
Originally launched as Connected TV back in 2009 and allowing viewers with compatible televisions to access Internet-enabled widgets for your basic Twitter, Facebook and news feeds. Yahoo have a deal now with chip manufacturers MIPS and Sigma designs to produce chips that run Yahoo widgets, allowing manufactures to install Yahoo Widgets in a range of hardware.
Yahoo widgets have previously only been available on newly manufacturered HDTVs from manufacturers such as Sony, Vizio, Samsung, and LG. Now the first device to carry Yahoo widgets has been revealed at CES. It is the ViewSonic media server snazzily called the VMP80 which will have Yahoo Connected TV built in. It has been designed for people that already own non-connected HDTVs, and who want a way to access internet video content to their tv.

Yahoo Widgets Coming To a TV Near You
Yahoo widgets allow internet connected TVs to access net video of all kinds after just one or two clicks on the remote by the viewer. Yahoo widgets appear as snippets in a “dock” at the bottom of your TV screen. You can also open a widget directory in a panel at the left of your screen to find what you want.
Yahoo have partnered with several internet video providers including Netflix, VUDU, Amazon VOD, CinemaNow/Blockbuster, Showtime and CBS. Yahoo today announced the addition of the video catalogs of aggregators FrameChannel, Brightcove, Zinc, and 1Cast.
Yahoo has a Twitter widget that allowing you to see a feed of people who are watching, and tweeting about, the TV show your viewing. A TV from Vizio is shipping with its own slide out QWERTY keyboard making adding your own tweets to the stream a lot easier.
The VMP80 media player will be available in the first months of 2010 for around $1590 and is expected to be the first of many Yahoo enabled set top boxes to be launched.

i still think that after 1 year having a new top of the rage Samsung tv the widgets are very poor we were told there would be 80 by Christmas and thats was 2009 and still only about 18 and most are really bad and the thing to remember is that most of us have laptops now so why would i want to use ie twitter when i have to scroll to ever letter .
so come on samsung if you want to sale tvs on the printable that they have tv widgets at least give us a compatible keyboard it is great for say picasa and films if i ever get the widgets but anything where you have to type it is just to tedious and hard work .
i even road maps for Russia and traffic updates now i live in the uk why would i need this ..it would be nice of samsung keep us updated to why we have no widgets rather and take my cash then dont keep up there and of the bargain with promises of widgets they cant deliver

This would be useful if it had an app that could stream video from a Media Server like a PS3, Wii or XBox360 can.
I bought a Vizio 32″ HDTV with this feature, used is a few days, but without a MediaServer I had to use my XBox360 anyways, so I returned it.
I’d think about buying one again and keeping it if someone comes up with a Media Client widget…
