Original content is not just the preserve of Netflix, or Amazon, or even the BBC as Yahoo have revealed plans to launch six new web based shows during 2013.
Yahoo announced the new content details at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square and revealed they had doubled original video content on Yahoo which now has a re-designed homepage that fits the “three screens” of the web, smartphone and tablet.
Titles coming from big name talent that includes Ed Helms, Zachary Levi, Morgan Spurlock and Cheryl Hines include the risque sounding interview show, Losing Your Virginity with John Stamos, Tiny commando about a 4 inch tall PI, We Need Help starring Cheryl Hines and Rachael Harris, Fashion Recipe, Cinema & Spice and Grill Girls.
Erin McPherson, Yahoo head of video said, “The new shows and partnerships we’re announcing at Yahoo’s NewFront demonstrate how we are building scale, reaching more targeted audiences and innovating with content.”
The whole series of episodes of each show will become available all at once, as has become the norm with online providers, and the news comes just a few days after Yahoo announced exclusive streaming rights for Saturday Night Live from producer Broadway Video,
Also announced was a partnership with wrestling body WWE, giving Yahoo exclusive rights to preview shows for Monday Night Raw, clips and WWE’s archives of previous full matches and shows.
