The website portal Yahoo! and the NBC Sports Group announced a new partnership on Sunday, and the new deal encompasses a range of digital broadcast content, including video streaming. Although Yahoo! Sports will continue to remain a separate editorial entity, they will also now be collaborating with NBC Sports to cover sports news and events both online and on television.
“Passionate fans need news and analysis about their favorite teams in real time, and they want access to that information no matter where they are,” said Ken Fuchs CP of Yahoo Global Media. “We’re thrilled to combine Yahoo’s fantasy offerings, product innovation and editorial authority with NBC’s broadcast coverage of live sports events and award-winning on-air talent.”
The new deal includes Yahoo! Sports editors Dan Wetzel and Adrian Wojinarowski to be featured on NBC television broadcasts. Both Yahoo and NBC Sports will be working together to create original web-only video stream programs to appear on their respective websites. Additionally, Yahoo! Sports will be providing access to NBC’s most popular sports programming including Sunday Night Football and the NHL Game of the Week.
The Yahoo Sports fantasy platform will become an exclusive provider for fantasy games on NBC Sports’ popular Rotoworld fantasy news and info website. Live streaming content will be provided through the NBC Sports Live Extra, its proprietary TV Everywhere platform. Both NBC and Yahoo are excited with the complementary nature of the new deal. ““The Yahoo! Sports partnership dramatically expands the digital reach of NBC Sports around the biggest sporting events,” concluded Mark Lazarus, Chairman of NBC Sports Group.
