Comcast have brought out a new selection of apps for their popular Xfinity TV service, with the update, set to go out to Apple iOS devices such as iPhones and iPods, going online to the Apple store under their future brand name of Xfinity.

The service offers users, who are digital subscribers to Comcast, over 6,000 hours on-demand content to watch from their smartphone or tablet computer. Users are also able to find their favourite content easier by searching with genre and network filters, also helping to discover more shows carried by Comcast.

Since the Xfinity TV app was first launched in October 2010, user numbers have gone from strength to strength, having a total download count of over 2 million.The app is available on Android, iPad, tablets and smartphones.

While Comcast has used this flow of good business to gradually raise the amount of content being put through the app, up from the slightly-above 3,000 figure seen in February. With Apple now signed on, Xfinity’s ever-rising number of content partners is up to 25.

Comcast claim that the Xfinity TV app has gone down well with its users, who with it have the ability to use their carrying device as a remote control for their set-top-box, with access to Comcast broadcast data and services from a variety of platforms, such as regular cable TV, DVR programming, online, or on demand.

General manager of Comcast Interactive Media Matt Strauss said of the new deal, and the company’s future plans: “Our development team will continue to add even more choices and personalized options to the Xfinity TV app, giving our customers access to the entertainment they want, where and when they want it.”
