X Factor Sees Four For Final
The final of this year’s X Factor in the UK will feature four acts, as opposed to the usual three, after show judge Louis Walsh revealed the information in an interview. This means that there will not be a double elimination to whittle the now five-strong field down to three as previously expected.
This will come as a boost to the remaining contestants (Cher Lloyd, Mary Byrne, Matt Cardle, Rebecca Ferguson, and One Direction), giving them a much better chance of reaching the even higher level of coverage and audience that only the final can bring for the hopefuls.
The format of the final is said to be the same, with each act performing two songs each, along with a special duet with a guest celebrity act all on Saturday, and an additional two songs from the remaining two acts on Sunday’s bumper results show before the winner is announced.
Louis, who is a mentor to a fellow Irish native, supermarket worker Mary Byrne (who is currently the rank outsider to win the competition), revealed during an interview with Irish station RTÉ Radio One, that there will not be a double elimination as previously rumoured.
Due to each contestant performing twice next weekend (the semi-final), there is not much of a set ‘theme’ for the week as before, but two, with one half of songs being described as ‘club classics’, with the other being the judges choosing ‘a song to get to the final’. Only one contestant will be eliminated on the Sunday, and it will be done directly by the public vote-off.
The final of the 2010 series of the X Factor will take place across 2 episodes each lasting two hours on the weekend of December 11-12 live on ITV1, and of course available to watch online with ITV Player.
