X Factor Wait For Simon Cowell Delays UK Show

ITV executives seem poised to try and rearrange their schedule to put the eighth series of the X Factor on in January 2012, as opposed to the usual August-December period thanks to Simon Cowell.

Love him or hate him, X Factor needs him

Insiders are suggesting that the show could be a flop if Simon Cowell is not involved, which would be a likely outcome as he plans to appear on the new American version of the show in the autumn/fall period, and while he has expressed his desire to do both shows, the weekly trans-Atlantic flights which would be involved with such a choice might mean that he would stick to the US edition which he is already committed to.

His plans to bring fellow UK judge Cheryl Cole along to join the panel has left show bosses worried for the state of the ITV hit, meaning they may begin the show in January to avoid a conflict of interests for Cowell. This could have a heavy effect on the format of the show, which is currently in the midst of preliminary ‘producers auditions’ (the stage before TV-based auditions in front of the regular judges).

An official source stated: “ITV is looking at a range of options to keep Cheryl and Simon. But changing dates would play havoc with ITV’s schedule and the auditions have already begun.”

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Cheryl is now back in the race to win a seat on the four-person judging panel as one of the two females, with Simon Cowell planning to replicate the success had with lauching Piers Morgan’s American career. However, there is not a unanimous agreement to have the English singer, part of girlband Girls Aloud, to be on the panel for the multi-million dollar show, with producers prefering a less risky option by taking on two American stars, with Nicole Scherzinger and Mariah Carey amongst those on the list of targets.

An insider suggested: “Simon’s never been afraid of putting a Brit on the panel. He did it with Piers Morgan on ‘America’s Got Talent’ and now he’s one of the biggest names in the States. Cheryl will be just as successful. The Yanks are going to love her!”

On the presenting front of the US version, Welshman Steve Jones remains bullish about his chances to become the frontman for the new series, despite being an unknown in the States. He said of his chances: “I don’t know if I’ll get it, but I’m a serious contender. I’ve known Simon Cowell for quite some time. He likes me; we connect.”

His comments come a week after current British host Dermot O’Leary admitted that he had not been chosen for the job, and that Cowell, alongside producers for host network Fox, are looking for two presenters, featuring: ”a non-conventional female superstar and a male pin-up singer”.
