Will Internet TV replace Television? Shock horror.

I found an interesting online chat discussing the possibility that Internet TV will replace conventional TV. It was interesting to hear what people on the street think rather than the company execs. Heres how it went:-

internettv

Although i watch my tv, i dont as much as i go on the internet. I listen to news through the internet also. I would like my monitor to be my tv. Hope they would make the internet much faster and much cheaper. Do you think in the future the tv would be obsolete? and the net would rule?. Like everyone here while watching the internet you can also make money from it. it is full of knowledge you dont even have to go to college if you are wiling to learn. i just think of the unlimited possbilites of the internet. what do you think of the advantages and the disadvantages?. is it better to invest in the internet than it is to land? make your life the internet. work on it everyday for the rest of you life. I was thinking to put my life to risk and make my future to be in the internet. Dreaming to make millions someday from products i make through the net.

yup it sure will
there are already webtv or advanced HD monitor/tv things.
and also more and more products/hardware are sold to change your pc to both TV and PC.

Defo my man. When streaming speeds ramp up a little more and especially with the new p4p protocol. The speed and quality will be such that watching TV on a window on your PC or wirelessly sent to your big screen TV will be the norm. In my humble opinion of course

Yes it will, I am watching less tv everyday and I am online most of the time.

What? You mean that TV thing is still around? I had forgotten all about it!

I think the 2 will join and you will watch tv and be on the internet at same time.

Yes. The internet has already replaced TV for me.

One day my friend… One day Internet will definitly replace TV. No doubts in my mind.

There are always old fashioned people, looking for old days, but like it or not, internet is taking over everything.

Maybe Internet will overtake Television. Making everything Online.

Yeah, the Internet is definitely pushing the TV away from the spotlights but I think that there’s nothing that can replace the Gud ‘Ol TV. Some things can’t be seen on the net.

I spent a few days with friends recently, skiing, and we rented this condo that had tv and also wifi.
I had my laptop with me and we ended up spending a lot more time on the net than on tv.Whether to check the weather, to watch videos, or whatever else.I think that we are getting close to the turning point.

sooner or later will be the answer.
YES –> internet penetration now getting bigger n bigger

I watch my tv through my computer I even have a channel changer and everything so I can be on my tread mill and watch tv through the computer. I can watch dvd’s record my favorite shows stop or pause shows so I can grab some more water and then pick up where I left off. I think the two are one for me and it is more of terminaology of how I am using the one device I still say I am watching tv or a movie even if it is on my computer.

Well, I agree more and more people turn to the Internet, for they can get the info anytime, anywhere and skip the commercial, if they want, but the TV can still have its place, just like the radio and the newspaper.

Yup. Many others have said the same thing, but the internet has already replaced TV for me as well. The shows that I do watch, I watch online. It’s very rare that I use the TV anymore.

Definitely the internet will replace TV; but there are certain conditions to be met.
They are
1. The cost of PC should go down and equals the cost of TV or better still fall below that
2. The speed of the net. It should be reliable and sufficiently speedy enough to allow streaming videos.
In developing countries, we are provided with a broadband connection which is not really broadband. It looks as if it is a scaled up version of the dial up. The actual speed should be somewhere more than 2 mbps. Then only you can enjoy it.
3. The cost of the broadband - should be economical. otherwise none will opt for it.

Actually it already has.I heard on the news the other day that people spend more time on the internet than watching TV.Personally I expect 3D virtual world games (like Everquest, Second Life, etc.) to eventually replace TV shows and movies. Would you rather be “told” what to think? Or interact and make your own decisions.

It sorta already has, tons of people watch movies on their computers these days.

I think it will because you can get more visual things in the Internet than Television with people spending more times in Computer It is surely going to replace TV.

I think its time to buy that new 50 inch PC monitor guys cos the internet TV revolution is coming..
