WD Live Media Box Gets Spotify Music Service
The WD set-top box range from Western Digital has had a new model introduced, The new networked-media player now has added the Spotify music service allowing users to stream around 15 million songs.
The WD box is a Wi-Fi/Ethernet connected, HD (1080p) streaming media player with access to TV shows and movies from Hulu Plus, Netflix, Pandora, YouTube and Blockbuster that can be watched on a HDTV.
To use the new Spotify service, users will need to add a subscription to the cost of the box ($99) which is $9.99 monthly. This will give users access to more than 15 million songs using WD TV Live systems. Users can also do other stuff such as socialize with other Spotifiers and recommend tracks etc.
In a statement, WD said, “WD incorporates Spotify’s popular features in the new service, including the ability to create and manage Spotify playlists, share songs to Spotify friends, and see and subscribe to friends’ playlists via their Spotify profiles. Users can also share tracks by sending songs directly to other Spotify users’ inboxes. Spotify for WD TV Live and WD TV Live Hub delivers an exciting new way to enjoy and share music on the best sound system in your home.”
Additionally WD have also launched an updated WD TV Live Hub costing $199 providing 1 TB of storage. The player supports most file formats for media using any networked home computer.
The last update to WD Live was in August when Hulu Plus was added.
