Watching TV While Shopping Increasingly Popular With Viewers
A new survey has confirmed what a lot of multitaskers we all are. The survey showed that shopping on the web whilst watching TV is on the rise, which can only continue to increase with the number of connected devices now hitting the market.
The survey which was carried out by GfK for a report by Deloitte, questioned 4000 UK nationals and found that television watching whilst web surfing has grown significantly since last year. And thanks to tablet pc’s, the popularity of online shopping is growing.
The survey showed that 68% of respondents do surf the internet at least occasionally whilst watching television, a rise from last years 56%. The proportion of people who do so frequently has increased to 30% from 16% last year.
When it comes to shopping, the survey showed that 45% of participants shop online as they watch TV. For women the figure was 50%. Youngsters are more into the online shopping vibe as a fifth of 18-24 year range exposed to goods on the TV then proceeded to buy them from the web.
The trend can only grow as 13% of recipients plan buying a tablet device in the next year. Jolyon Barker, of Deloitte said: “Today television appears to exert a significant influence on purchasing decisions made within the living room and in the high-street.
“Being connected means TV viewers can research, typically in the form of price comparisons and reviews, and transact – all within the space of an advertising break. All of this is very powerful to broadcaster.
The report backs up a Nielsen survey showing US viewers loved to surf and watch TV simultaneously.
It makes sense in our busy lives to shop whilst an ad break, or boring bit comes on tv. the problem being that with some shows broadcast, you would be shopping constantly rather than watching the screen.
