Watching Recorded And On-Demand Beats Live TV Say TiVo
DVR company TiVo have released research that shows viewing habits are changing. Specifically, the watching of recorded and internet delivered content is beating live TV broadcasting.
The research shows that of the 2 million TiVo’s, only 38% are used to watch live TV, and of the internet connected units that figure is just 27%. The research also revealed that approx two thirds of TV viewing on the TiVo connected DVR’s is time placed or on-demand.
So viewers want to watch content when it’s convenient for them rather than rushing to the TV set at a set time for a show or movie. The modern TV consumers want on-demand, and are not fussed if it comes from a recording, web streaming or cable/satellite on-demand.
With the latest TiVo Premiere, users get access to online content such as Youtube, Netflix and Hulu amongst other services. The TiVo gives viewers several ways to watch programming. The standard live TV, recorded content and video-on-demand.
The study only looked at viewers who used a TiVo, but then everyone has a DVR of some kind and every TV being sold will soon be internet connected. The figures therefore show that TV viewing is experiencing a major shift.
