The Walking Dead Is Alive In Ratings

AMC’s hit new zombie series The Walking Dead has concluded its 6-episode run in its first-season with yet another series high, as over 6 million viewers switched on this week for the finale, beating a total of 5.6 million (the previous best) set the week before Sunday.

Most of this high rating, naturally, came from the 18-49 age demographic with 4 million, helping towards a series average of 3.5 million, creating two new records for basic cable dramas. The show, which is set on the principles of Robert Kirkman’s zombie comic series of the same name, is already confirmed for a second season.

Factoring in an encore later that Sunday evening, the level of viewers rose to an unprecedented 8.1 million. The show has clearly been a breakout success, and to gain a cult following in less than six weeks, and maintain a very good and even improving viewer numbers, is obviously no mean feat.

The finale has been described as forming a creative mix and balance between closure and cliffhanger, and the executive producers, which includes the comic strip writer Robert Kirkman, are currently in the process of writing the season two script in preparation for next year, which will surely be back with a bang, if the above figures are anything to go by.

The news is making me pekish… for some brains..
