Virgin Media Profits Up Thanks To Digital TV Drive

Virgin Media have announed a great 4th quarter in 2010 where they hit over one billion (pounds) in sales, partly thanks to their push into tv-on-demand content, powered by their rebranded TiVo box.

Virgin Media pushing on-demand tv

Virgin have gained subscribers to it’s cable service which now number four million plus. The number subscribed to higher data tariffs of 20Mb plus grew by 40% as well, now numbering  780,000. The rise according to Virgin was down to the new TiVo box and on-demand service.

The company are looking to push the service this year and get a lead in the internet-connected TV market and get one over on rival Youview who have delayed their launch until 2012.

Chief Exec. of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett said:- “The way in which customers are watching their entertainment is changing and we’re at the leading edge of that,” said Mr Berkett. “We’ll take advantage of any delay in competitors’ products.”

Looks like, in the UK at least, Sky have a serious rival. And Virgin are arguably beating them for streaming on demand.
