Viggle App Makes It Pay To Watch TV
It is the dream of every couch potato in the world, to get paid for watching the TV. Well now, thanks to the new Viggle app for iPad and iPhone, you can, kind of.
The app which runs on iPad nd iPhone works as a loyalty program, and rewards viewers for vegetating in front of the goggle box with gift cards, music downloads and movie tickets.
The way the app works is by recognising the show that the viewer is watching and credits a certain number of reward points for every minute watched.
The credits earned equate to two points per minute, and will work for live and recorded shows.
Viggle have partnered with a number of companies to offer rewards such as Burger King, Starbucks, iTunes, CVS, Best Buy, Sephora, and Fandango.
Speaking about the app, Chris Stephenson, president of Function (X) Inc.who make Viggle said, “Viggle is the first loyalty program for TV. We’re basically allowing people to get rewards for doing something they’re doing already and that they love to do.”
So how does giggle make money you ask? Well if your racking up points, it stands to reason you will watch even more TV, right? So audience numbers rise and will make more money from advertising for the TV companies, and the app will show advertising of is own.
So as Viggle makes money, it can give a percentage away to the viewer. But before you get too excited, it seems you will need to rack up a lot of points for even a small reward.
For example, you will need a mammoth 7,500 points just to get a $5 gift card to use with a participating retailer. In other words, several weeks of TV watching!
To help encourage the zombiefied viewers who wish to participate, Viggle give you 1,500 bonus points when you sign up. They also plan on offering bonus points for watching ads on the app and checking into shows like “American Idol”.
Not sure about the rights and wrongs of encouraging viewers to slob in front of the TV even more, then reward them with a burger, but the app is now available from the app store and an Android version will follow.

It works, in 4 days I got a ten dollar iTunes card, and in 50 days, I should have an iPod shuffle
I saw the add about viggle on channel 3 news. I would like to try it on my android
I am looking for a Viggle app for Android or can it be done by using laptop?
Works great. Sometimes it doesn’t recognize the show but then you just type it in and confirm the check in. Still gets you the points. In a week I earned over 26,000 points. Anytime you get a chance for a commercial or trivia questions take them. They will repeat quite often. 26,000 is enough for $15 in gift cards. Not bad for just pressing on my iphone a couple times a day. I already cashed in a $10 Sephora gift card. Guess I’ll save up for the kindle.
can you check into more that 1 show during a certain time..for instance if im watching fox and i check in then turn on another channel can i check in and get points again?
dana: no if u decide to check into another show then i will give you the points of the time you were on the previous show. It depends on the length of the show or time you watch tv that you get points for
Hi when will viggle work for android?
How does it know how long you are watching?? I am on the app right now but how do I know I am getting credit?
Just watched a whole hour of Grimm but only got 10 points. How do you get the total points that it shows on the tv show display? It is confusing.
You can very easily game the system by flipping channels and checking in. It doesn’t think about how you can be watching 3 programs at once. I’ve gotten over 10k of points in less than 3 days.
Love, love, love this. It does not take weeks on end to build up points for the $5.00 like this article suggests. It can be done in a day or less, and I am one that does other things while watching TV anyways, so no harm in checking in and doing what ever else I always do anyways. As a stay at home mom, this has been a HUGE help on the finances. I snag the CVS and Target gift cards then they roll through, and have not had any problems with any store redemption. Yes it is a little glitchy as they tweak it here and there, but no way I am gonna complain as I have cashed out $55.00 in CVS and Target gift cards since January 28th 2012. No I do not work for Viggle….No I am not getting paid for this…I just really, really love this app.
DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF VIGGLE IS.COMING OUT FOR ANDRIOD?
Anyone having problems with getting the confirmation email? I’m trying to redeem for a gift card but can’t until my email is confirmed. I’ve tried re-sending 5 times but it still hasn’t hit my email yet.
When will giggle be avalible for kindle fire
I love this app. I am like Bobbie Bargain, in that I just check in at the beginning of a program, and then do whatever I need to do. I figured out that because the point system is based upon the length of a program, I can check into programs that I am not watching as long as they are longer (to earn more points), and then just change the channel to the program that I actually want to watch. I have already earned enough point in just over a week to earn $15.00 in gift cards, and my wife has already redeemed her points for a $10.00 iTunes gift card. I just wish that there was an android version so that I could use the app on my android tablet as well as my iPhone. Double points would an awesome benefit!!!!
This app is great to use on my iPad. I would love to see it on the android market…..
I just asked Viggle and they told me tnstaafl I needed to get the new app. With the new app I still didn’t get the points. I also asked about the new app wanting to have me allow the app to access my info even when I am not signed in.
They do not know anything about it and have to check. This might just be a way for someone to get your ID.
Be careful.
Is this app available for Android phones yet? What about I touch?
You can get it on i touch not andriod
Im confused i was watching TV and it recognized it but it didnt say like +150 points or whatever it just said the tv show. Do i have to start at the beggining or what! because it says i have 0 points plz respond
Sometimes when you check into a show the points don’t automatically show up. Sometimes it will at the end of the show or if you watch an ad or post to facebook for a quick opts you’ll see that the other points add on ad well. My phone does it all the time so I wouldn’t worry
I noticed that if the points dont show i just turn my phone off and on and they always show up.
Has it been released on android market yet I watched it on the news a few months back and it said it available on android market mark
I’ve been trying to sign in to the movie “To Kill A Mockingbird”. And it just won’t check me in. What is up with that?
When is coming to the Android network?
Does it work for movies- does it have to be live or could it be DVD?
Does anyone know if you need to keep the viggle app open on your phone to keep earnIng points while watching a show? Or if I’m checked in, can I do other things on my phone or even let me screen sleep and still stay checked in earning points for the show.
@ Kelly: Yes, you can check in to movies, but unfortunately they must be currently airing. You cannot check in from a dvd unless it’s actually on tv at that time. Same goes for tv shows.
@ Lauren: Yes, you can close the app while checked in and use your phone for other activities.
i downloaded this app on my I-touch and when i clicked “check in” i just got a blank viggle screen… nothing happened…don’t know why?…. does Viggle need any new version of I-touch?
Is this app available for android?
Still waiting for any kind of update of an android version or release date. We all got android phones to avoid this problem with the outdated apps from the other brand.
Beta test for android started today! android.viggle.com. I have been using it for the last 3 hours, no glitches yet.
How and what do I have to do to download this?
It is on android but its beta, so you have to go online on your phone to download it. Make sure you o to settings and check unknown sources before downloading.
I’m so tired of hearing all the Android users complaining. This is a simple concept. If you want to use apps that always come out for iPhone first then get an iPhone. Don’t run around like you are OBLIGATED to be given something just because it’s on the other devices.
