Many Users Not Getting The Connected TV Vibe
Whilst connected TV sets are taking off around the world and fast becoming the new TV standard, a new study says that over half of consumers are not getting the connected TV vibe.
The study by Knowledge Networks says that 62% of respondents are, “not connected or not capable” and even more surprisingly, “most plan to stay that way.”
The results fly in the face of most reports showing that connected TV is selling faster than they can be manufactured. The truth is probably that as with all technology, the connected TV will be accepted easily by some of the market and take longer for others to be accepted.
The running of the internet on a TV screen is also different to what people are used to. Some think that the connected TV revolution is waiting for apps and websites that are optimized for the big TV screen. Currently some users are not really adopting the connected features apart from using catch-up services.
When looking at the future of TV, the inescapable fact is that your TV will be connected to the web. Getting people to use the web services and apps, rather than just use the TV as they do now will be the challenge for companies in this market.
