TV viewing from the internet set to explode

According to new research, video streaming and internet TV streamed straight to your traditional TV will increase by a factor of 10 by 2013.
The research was carried out by ABI Research. It shows that as the TV and video providers, TV hardware manufacturers all make Internet streaming easier to access and use on a traditional television, customers will start using it.
The numbers show that a massive 130 billion plus TV shows and movies
will be viewed or downloaded worldwide by 2013, an increase from the existing 11.6 billion. An average of 140 streamed videos will be viewed on customers TV’s by 2013, increasing from the existing 17 streams.
Spokesman Michael Wolf, from ABI said:- “All stakeholders in the online video ecosystem are eyeing the living room. With the continued adoption of network connected video games consoles, the porting of popular online video services such as Hulu and Netflix onto third party consumer electronics devices we see this market for TV displayed online video continuing to grow.”
Netflix and Blockbuster have been aggressive this year at trying to attract their customers to their digital delivery services, while Amazon.com, the world’s largest Internet retailer, revamped its video-download service.
Currently Netflix, has made available over 12000 TV shows and movies available via various hardware means including the Roku set top box, TiVo, Xbox 360, LG Bluray and Samsung Bluray players. Blockbuster have also joined in and Amazon are involved with video on demand.
With those kind of predicted numbers, it’s easy to see why the hardware and content providers are falling over themselves to grab audience share.
