Toshiba Break The Lens Of 3D Glasses
Toshiba looks set to revolutionise the ‘dimension’ of 3DTV as it were, with the Japanese technology giant ready to release a TV that allows the user to watch in 3D without the need for 3D glasses, as has been the case since the release of the original extra dimensional technology.
The technology used is known as autostereoscopic 3D, and has been in headlines of technology since Nintendo released their ’3DS’ handheld video gaming system, leading to a storm of other glasses-free 3D products, though most of these have been limited to small-screen use… until now. A key concern is that the new-found technology will not be of stable use with such an increase of screen size, but Toshiba seem certain that their product is good and ready to hit the market.
The innovation does seem ready to take off, as users become frustrated at the need to wear glasses in order to experience 3D. The drawback to this, though, is that the manufacturers of the original versions of 3DTV could now face having a product that is out-dated, barely a few months, or even weeks after release.
Toshiba are all set to be the first of the major manufacturers to sell autostereoscopic 3DTV sets (launching next week), and Sony are getting in on the act too. With other manufacturers needing to play catch-up. Could Toshiba’s virtual absence from the stereoscopic 3D (glasses needed) market have a long-term pay-off, as they look ready to cash in on their innovation?
