TiVo Post $10.2 Million Loss For Fourth Quarter
King of digital recorders TiVo despite having some good news recently with the launch of the TiVo Premiere and winning a legal victory over Echostar, have posted a $10.2m loss for Q4, and seen subscriber numbers falling by around a quarter.
TiVo has been suffering at the hands of cable companies who offer their subscribers a similar DVR as part of their package. TiVo have been struggling to sign up new subscribers, with new signups 46,000 in the quarter which is down 22%. Currently there are around 1.5 million TiVo-owned subscribers and 2.6 million total subscribers.
Struggling from competition coming from all angles, from Hulu to Netflix. They suffered again when iTunes started selling tv shows, and televisions came equipped with built in DVR systems. TiVo have partly attributed the loss to these services contributing to a mass of subscription cancellations.
In the cold light of day, that $10.2 million loss equates to around nine cents per share, which is no great shakes, but analysts can only see things getting worse. TiVo are suffering from the many competing services and products, many which dont ask for a subscription. TiVo will be pinning their hopes on the launch of their new Premiere system, lets hope it has the features and services to keep TiVo alive.
