Time Warner Internet TV App For iPad Hits Skids
When Time Warner decided to release an iPad TV app it must have seemed like a great idea. Live TV streaming from the web anywhere in the house. Subscribers could watch 32 channels in HD using a Wi-Fi connection. But now that idea has gone very bad.
It seems that many of the content providers were not happy, and the increasing pressure (not forgettinglawsuits) did the trick and Time Warner hduly obliged.
The content providers that successfully got taken from the iPad app include Viacom, Discovery, News Corp, MTV, Discovery, Comedy Central, FX and TLC. In total twelve live TVchannels got taken down.
Time Warner came back with a reposte of sorts by then adding 17 new channels for the app. Although channels such as the Jewelry channel do not really set the pulse racing.
So what is behind all this infighting? Time Warner think that as part of their TV Everywhere, they can let subscribers watch their content on any device within their home. The providetrs say they want paying extra for mobile streaming as it was never part of the original deal.
As the lines between media distribution blur, you can expect a lot more spats like this until the companies get their heads around digital delivery.
