The now-defunct gaming company THQ, who earlier this year declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy, will as per industry custom continue operation until they are rid of all their current remaining intellectual property rights, with a new auction being called that will streamline this process.
The catalogue of titles that weren’t picked up during the main money-spinning auction last month (which included the controversial sale of South Park: The Stick of Truth to Ubisoft), are now up for grabs, as the company look to offload anything else still in their possession before they wind down.
All remaining rights have been grouped into 6 ‘lots’ for potential bidders, 4 of which cover high-profile games franchises (Darksiders, Homeworld, MX, and Red Faction) with one for all miscellaneous and less-desired owned brands (including de Blob, Destroy All Humans, Juiced, Stuntman, and the ill-fated uDraw platform (widely considered to be the reason for THQ’s predicament)).
The final lot covers all licensed software that remains with the company, including Jeopardy, Marvel Super Hero Squad, Wheel of Fortune, and Worms 2. Bidding for the items will begin immediately, with a deadline of 1 April 2014 for all ‘initial bids’, and a final bidding phase ending on 15 April. Do you have a little (a lot) of money to spare and fancy getting your hands on some video game IP’s? The lots in full show exactly what you would be getting in each package…
