FOX network’s “other” signing competition show is coming back next year as “The X Factor” will premiere a third season next fall FOX revealed on Monday. The show, which has undergone a major re-tooling with new judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato replacing last year’s Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, hopes to keep fans entertained through a third season.
“This season, Simon [Cowell] and the producers of ‘The X Factor’ took an already strong show and made it absolutely fantastic,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment at FOX. The format changes are working, the contestants are unbelievably talented, and Britney and Demi –alongside Simon and [judge] L.A. [Reid] — have brought an incredibly fun new chemistry to the judges’ panel that our fans really love.
Despite the changes to the judging cast and the recent addition of Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian as hosts beginning in November, “The X Factor” has been through some growing-pains this season. The show has been losing viewers each week, and when those rating numbers are compared to “The Voice” on NBC analysts are beginning to believe that maybe Simon Cowell has lost his magic touch.
Still the numbers are strong in the much-coveted 18-49 demographic, however, problems for the show resurfaces last week when a scheduling conflict between a much anticipated episode and a rain-delayed MLB playoff game. FOX looks to correct the blunder Tuesday night, however, most fans have probably already looked up spoilers online for the episode that was cut-off mid-airing.
Regardless, Simon is thrilled with the announcement, saying, “I couldn’t be happier about ‘The X Factor’ already being renewed for another season.”
