New but struggling video game platform Ouya are set to add a high-profile new title to its ranks of available games, with the award-winning Telltale Games 2012 release The Walking Dead: Season One joining the set of games available to Ouya users.
The more story-driven and less graphics-stressful game (based more on the comic series rather than the AMC series) and its expansion pack (The Walking Dead: 400 Days) will make their way onto Ouya’s online streaming catalogue by the end of the year, and while no formal date or detailed pricing has been revealed, Telltale are set to offer the first ‘episode’ of Season One free to customers as seen on their other games and on other systems.
A Telltale Games statement on the deal noted: “We have an OUYA set up in the office and the team’s been discovering tons of great games from developers large and small, trying out a bunch of games we wouldn’t normally be able to trial. We’re all thrilled to add The Walking Dead to the mix on this platform!”
Meanwhile, Ouya will also be able to offer players upcoming sequel The Walking Dead: Season Two much more in the title’s ‘prime’ of publicity, though that will not stop them believing they can very much add to the 8.5 million total sales that the Season One game has made across all platforms…
The news of the partnership with the Android system even warranted an official trailer for the game increasing its growth over to a new platform, which can be reviewed below. A video description for that trailer clarified the situation for Ouya customers, reading: “Exciting times ahead… Telltale is partnering up with the good people at OUYA to bring The Walking Dead to OUYA! All 5 episodes in The Walking Dead: Season One AND the 400 Days DLC will be available on OUYA at the same time later this year. Even better, the whole of Episode 1 will be completely free to try! Season Two of the game will be on OUYA as well.”
