The PC is officially the homes second TV set

PCTV

I personally love watching my PC and so does everyone else it so it seems. Research has shown that as watching internet tv and online videos becomes ever more popular and the prolific entry into the internet tv market by the major broadcasters, your PC has become the homes second TV. Interestingly it says that the male gender in particular use the internet tv and video as a way of escaping from everyday life and using the PC as their gamesroom, shed or virtual den.

Viewers can escape their partners or familys soaps and kids tv interests and find what they really want online.

The survey was carried out by Simply and media boutique Work Research designed to show what the public think of, how they find and use the plethora of new and emerging online TV and video services.

Justin Gibbons Director of Work Research commented, “This is the first serious attempt to unpick the complexities of the new online video ecology and explode the misconception that all that’s on offer is homemade comedy and soap catch ups.”

KEY FINDINGS OF THE RESEARCH

  • The PC or Laptop are taking over as the homes ‘second TV’.
  • Online TV viewers are basically ‘normal’ people with no evidence of viewers being ‘geeky’ , ‘techheads’ or only interested in weird niche type interests i.e. ‘Bulgarian clog dancing’
  • 3 distinct online categories of content emerged and characterised:- Snippets, Boutique and Catch-Up. Each one viewed in different ways.
  • For the networks there is a ‘Apex of Attention’ where needs based viewing meets relevant advertising content.
  • The Viewing public have been trained to accept advertising in exchange for the ‘free’ TV content as with traditional Television sets.

As the TV and PC converge more and more their will soon be no distinction between the 2. TV’s and PC’s will basically do and offer the same thing and then will become 1.
