Are you an internet video watcher? When it comes to watching video online, the US cannot get enough. A survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project has discovered that virtually three quarters of the population in America use the internet to watch online media.have used the Internet to watch one or more of the following: video clips, TV shows, movies and educational videos.

The survey conducted by phone of 700 adults discovered that 70% use the web for watching funny videos, tv shows, movies and educational stuff. The biggest demographic doing this are the 18-29 age range. The survey also reveals how much internet tv viewing has risen since 2007. Watching funny videos grew from 31% to 50% of Internet users. Similarly, and the biggest gainers were not surprisingly tv shows and movies with viewer numbers doubling to 32%. But its not all about brain dead entertainment, political video numbers doubled to 30% and educational video watching grew by 16%.

“The spread of broadband, the increased use of social networking and status update sites like Facebook and Twitter, the popularity of video-sharing sites like YouTube, and the embrace of video features by untold numbers of websites, have all contributed to the surge in online video watching,” said Kristien Purcell, Associate Director for Research at Pew.

The survey showed what most of us already know, that professional premium content is getting more popular. The study found that 8% of internet video watchers have connected their pc to the tv set in order to watch online video, and 10% of online video watchers have paid to watch or download a video. Internet users are also uploading far more video, Pew found that 14% of Internet users have uploaded a video to YouTube or similar sites. Doubling the number of video uploading in 2007.

It also seems that having a movie on the hard drive is not a major factor for most people, the survey revealed that viewers prefer streaming movies and TV shows from websites or services like Netflix as opposed to downloading the video to pc to watch later. Over 60% of Internet users watch TV shows and movies from streaming sites, but only a quarter (23%) bother to download.
