Starz Give Netflix 90-Day Waiting Order

Following on from reports that Showtime are no longer making original series available for Netflix to stream, the online TV streaming giant has faced another dispute with one of their cable network providers.

Starz have today announced that it will be delaying the process of licensing all new content to their ‘Play Starz’ broadband service, which is bad news for carriers Netflix, Qwest, and Verizon, as they will now face a wait for 90 days after the original airing before they can get their hands on it.

Starz are also said to be taking a similar hardline stance on premiere movies on the network, in an attempt to persuade more users to subscribe to their own Internet TV hub, Starz Online.

An official statement from the network read: “Beginning with the April 1 premiere of the new original drama Camelot,  new episodes of Starz originals will now be available on the Starz Play services 90 days after they debut on the network, with exclusive first-run movies later following suit.”

They have assured Play Starz users, though, that anything that airs prior to the April 1 deadline will follow old guidelines, as well as seeing previous episodes of Starz’s movies and series, such as Spartacus, will still be available on services such as Netflix. The slightly changed arrangement with Netflix runs until the end of the year, but will this bold profile-raising move for the cable network pay off?

  1. No…it won’t pay off as I’m not paying the ridiculous fees to not even be able to watch shows like GoT on demand.

It may however push me away from Netflix, I already left cable and if I can’t get these shows either way then why have them at all?

  2. Agreed. I’ll never have twc tv again, and if netflix does not carry decent shows, ill drop that as well.
