Sony using Yahoo’s widgets on new range of HDTV

yahoowidgetNot wanting to be left behind, Sony is releasing seven HDTV sets using the new Yahoo Widget Engine showing Youtube video’s, Amazon Video on Demand, plus other internet pulled content straight to the HDTV set.
Called Bravia Internet Widgets, they will feature on the latest BRAVIA Models with Interactive Widgets plus Streaming Internet TV and Video.

Sony today announced it’s first networked BRAVIA LCD HDTV models including Internet TV apps known as widgets delivering real time informationrelated to the show being watched and streaming video abilities using integrated BRAVIA Internet Video Link capabilities.

Sony new models of HDTV have an Ethernet connection, which allows the tv sets to access Sony BRAVIA Internet Video content through broadband and wifi connections. The service also features a large selection of free and premium movies, TV shows, sports, music amongst others from a wide range of content partners including Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, Yahoo, Slacker and more.

Bravia Internet Widgets, powered by the Yahoo Widget Engine, expand sonybraviaand personalize the TV experience by adding on-screen applications that provide such real-time information as weather reports, stock ticker updates, financial news, Yahoo! Video, Flickr images plus other internet based information.

Randy Waynick, senior vice president of Sony said:- “Internet-based content is driving the evolution of home entertainment. Our new networked BRAVIA models deliver streaming videos, access to digital files, and real-time information that transforms the television into a true multimedia hub.”

This will start a torrent of hardware manufacturers signing up to the new widget technology and almost guarantee it’s success.
