Sony Google TV Range Released For Simultaneous Web Browsing And TV Watching

A real internet tv at last

After the excitment of the Google TV powered Logitech Revue set-top box, Sony have today introduced the worlds first real Internet TV hardware. The range consists of four HDTVs plus a Google TV Blu-ray player. The sets go on general sale Saturday for prices of $599 for the 24” model and up to $1,399 for the 46” model.

For those that have been living in a cave, the Sony Google TV unveiled at a NY press event and billed as “the world’s first HDTV powered by Google TV” gives viewers access to the internet and tv woven together in a seamless experience – in theory anyway. The televisions will have interactive features and a range of web apps designed for the tv screen.

All Sony Internet TV’s are powered by Google TV Android OS and Google Chrome browser allowing full access from tv to the full Web for the first time. The TVs incorporate an Intel Atom processor, 1080p LED screens, four USB ports, four HDMI inputs and Wi-Fi. Plus all models have a snazzy Dual View mode for web browsing and watching TV simultaneously.

The Internet TV apps will give users access to Hulu, Twitter, Netflix, YouTube and Pandora amongst others directly to the tv set. Sony say that, “Google TV delivers a new experience by bringing the TV and internet together. Using your existing cable or satellite service and at no additional cost, Google TV gives you access to more entertainment options and simplifies the process of finding what you’re looking. Plus, you can enjoy both TV and web content at the same time, on the same screen”.

All devices come equipped with an RF remote looking like a hybrid of PS3 controller and a small QWERTY keyboard. Mike Abary, of Sony said:- “Some design elements [for the remote] were borrowed from the PS3.” It was also revealed that users can also use any Android device or iPhone as a remote for Google TV as well.

The Android Market for Google TV however will be available in early 2011 when Sony update the OS. There is no European or worldwide release date as of yet, but i’m sure we will be watching Sony Google TV all around the globe very soon.
