Smart TV Gets Blinkbox Video-On Demand Service

The Samsung range of Smart TV sets and Blu-Ray players in the UK have just got a new app, the video-on-demand movie service blinkbox has arrived in the App store, giving Smart TV users an additional library of more than 9,000 movies and TV shows.

Blinkbox comes to Samsung Smart TV

The Blinkbox streaming rental service is partly owned by foodchain Tesco and is already available on games consoles, computer and some set-top boxes. The service allows viewers to rent or buy titles, although some content is free. Releases from Warner Bros, Universal Picturesand Twentieth Century Fox amongst others is usually available the same time as the DVD release.

Speaking about the move, Marketing Director for Samsung UK TV, Guy Kinnell said, “By adding more partners to our Samsung Apps store, we are opening the door to thousands of hours of top-quality entertainment for viewers. Our partnership with blinkbox will ensure Smart TV users can quickly and easily view more of their favourite films, TV shows and movie trailers enhanced by the true-to-life picture quality and revolutionary product design of their Smart TV.”

Speaking for Blinkbox, Michael Comish, CEO and co-founder said, “Our partnership with Samsung will allow us to be available to more people than ever before as well as giving our existing users a richer more accessible viewing experience.”

The service adds to existing streaming services on Samsung’s Smart TV in the UK, which include the BBC’s iPlayer, Lovefilm and Youtube amongst other services.
