Slingbox Finds Its Way To Google TV
Sling Media, the electronics company behind the interactive media device Slingbox, have revealed that they are releasing a version of their device to cater specifically to Google TV, in a move that both parties will hope can raise their profile in the connected TV market.
The new product will allow users to connect further to their TV or set-top box (in this case both with Google TV), and provides the classic Slingbox ability to ’sling’ (stream) and control DVR recorded content, or live TV direct to mobile devices such as phones or tablet computers.
This multi-platform connectivity has won the Slingbox (which has been in business since 2005) a good number of fans, with the ability to stream from home anytime, anywhere always a popular feature to have in a product.
The company look as though they are now intending to expand their services to the growing world of ‘connected TV’, with IPTV products such as Google TV and Sony Internet TV amongst the clear targets, despite the web giant’s stuttering start since the release of their TV brand in 2010.
With the new device from Sling, the idea is to allow users an even greater connectivity to their TV’s than ever before, while they have announced that users will require either a ‘Slingbox SOLO’ or a ‘Slingbox PRO-HD’ for the new integration to work.
The question for SlingPlayer is, will it work well with the still-uncertain presence of Google TV?
