The battle of the next-gen consoles is already hotting up, before either have been released. And the defining reason will be a TV tuner and Skype software which is said to be pre-installed with the new Xbox.
The prediction comes from games analyst, Michael Pachter who was speaking at the SXSW technology conference in Austin, Texas. He said that the Xbox 720 will give both the PS4 and Wii U a beating selling around 90-95 million console sales.
The Playstation 4 will sell slightly less, in the region of 85-95 million consoles, while the Wii U will hit the 30-50 million sales. His reasoning for the dominance of the new Xbox 720 is the fact it may come equipped with a TV tuner, making it more of an entertainment unit than a mere console.
Speaking about the Wii U, he dismissed it’s chances and likened it to a Nintendo DS split into two parts. He also claimed the console was not innovative enough to compete.
Other not-so-good news for gamers, is that Pachter predicts game prices will rise to a mammoth $70 each, rising $10 from current premium games.
These claims are just one man’s opinion, and we know that the PS4 will come packed with TV streaming services. But time will tell if his predictions come true as both consoles should be with us before the year end.
