Satellite TV broadcaster Sky have announced that their Sky player online tv service will be launched on internet-connected set-top boxes as part of a new agreement. The company have closed a deal with Cello and 3View that will see Sky Player on the companies range of web-connected television sets and digital set-top boxes.

Sky Player, which shows a mixture of live TV and video-on-demand content, is currently only available via PC, Mac and Xbox 360, although they also have integrated it with Windows 7′s Media Player service.  3View sell a 500GB Freeview HD PVR which caused ripples of excitement, whilst Cello have teamed up with Marks and Spencer, which saw the integration of BBC’s iPlayer into the manufacturer’s 26 and 32-inch TV sets.

Griff Parry, Sky’s director of on-demand, said the deals with Cello and 3View highlight the ever-evolving internet video sector. “We will continue to look at opportunities to distribute Sky Player across new platforms, to give consumers even more choice and control over how they access high-quality pay TV content. The news comes shortly after Sky expanded the number of channels available on its online tv player. Sky’s Player is not free though and only Sky subscribers can view the streaming content which includes movies and hit tv shows. service somewhere else.
