Showtime Pull The Good Stuff From Netflix

As the battle for paying subscribers heats up and networks become more wary of the online threat, Netflix have lost Showtime content from their instant streaming service. Showtime will be pulling seasons of popular shows from Netflix to put on their own streaming service instead.

Showtime pull good stuff from Netflix

It is only a partial pull out though with two shows leaving Netflix. They are Dexter and Californication, but some other shows will remain online with former dvd by mail company.

So what is the reasoning? Well according to Showtime it is just part of a new contract, but it seems that they are joining other providers in giving Netflix only ‘older’ content.

According to a story in the LA Times it is all about the amazing growth, and now threat of Netflix. When the original agreements were put in place Netflix was no threat and online streaming was in it’s infantcy. Also it makes sense if you want to keep subscribers, to keep the premium content locked down to one place.

Simply put, if Netflix had the content at the right price and on demand. The cable companies could all go out of business.
