SeeSaw Gets Saved By Bebo Owners
The catch-up TV dead have risen. SeeSaw the UK catch-up service that was days away from shutting down has now been saved by the owners of social networking website, Bebo.
Criterion Capital Partners (CCP), were already reported to be interested in buying the ailing TV on-demand portal, after owners Arqiva said they were ready to shut it down after an “ongoing strategic review of its business activities”.
SeeSaw was originally set to cease operation on June 20th 2011, but continued to broadcast amid reports that CCP was considering saving it from shutting down.
Previous boss of Channel 4, Michael Jackson s one of the investors that CCP brought in to secure the website business. The deal will see Arqiva keeping a 25% share of the SeeSaw business and a seat on the new board, with Mr Jackson assuming the role of chairman.
Talking about the deal, he said: “The technology behind SeeSaw is world class and the group behind the bid has a great mix of entrepreneurial and industry experience.”
Future plans for the site are as yet unknown, although the SeeSaw content is currently free to view. But making money will be a priority so expect pay or subscription TV to appear shortly.
