SeeSaw Loses Another Content Provider In Channel 5

It doesn’t rain, but it pours for catch-up TV aggregator website, SeeSaw. After being saved from a near death, the company now owned by Criterion Capital Partners who also own Bebo, has lost another major content provider in Channel 5.

SeeSaw going down the pan?

But that’s not the end of the bad news day, senior executives, John Keeling and Matt Rennie have resigned. There are also unsubstantiated reports that product director Richard Dines has quit along with them.

But the loss of the top brass seems to have been an orchestrated move, as a spokesman for the company said, “We’re relieved and pleased to see them go. Now we can focus on the restructuring of the business and we need people with the grit to lead a start-up.”

The loss of Channel 5 from SeeSaw follows swiftly on the heels of  Channel 4 catch-up content leaving the site as well. That leaves no catch-up TV left on the site and the only content provider left is BBC Worldwide.

Criterion saved SeeSaw from going bust at the eleventh hour, when they brought the company it had TV-on-demand content from major providers including ITV and Channel 4. SeeSaw was created from the remains of the BBC’s ill-fated Project Kangaroo.

Criterion were expected to invest in the catch-up network, but instead appears to be doing the opposite. Without any content renewal deals, the service will become a dead duck.
