Samsung Smartview App Brings TV And Phone Together

There have been a few apps released for smartphones that allow some kind of interaction with the TV. But Samsung have raised the bar with their new Android app, giving a really useful app that brings marries your Smart TV with your phone.

Smartview app brings phone and TV together

You will need to own a new Galaxy S II, although support for other Samsung products is promised, and a Samsung Smart TV or connected Blu-Ray player. The app which is called “Smartview” lets the viewer mirror whatever is playing on their Smart TV or connected Blu-ray player onto the phone using a wireless signal.

If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, it does even more. You can watch one channel on the phone while someone watches a different channel on the TV. Smart View can also access Smart TV apps, or use the phone as a games controller (including gyro function), a TV remote, check the EPG. If that’s not enough, how about streaming whatever is on your phone to the TV set? It seems to do it all.

The Samsung press release saya that  Smart View is available in the Android Market and currently is compatible with Samsung Smart TV D7000, D8000, and D9500 series, as well as the Galaxy S2 smart phone, and will be available for the Galaxy player (YP-GB70) in July, along with the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab later this year.

Samsung are leading the connected TV market with their Smart TV platform and recently announced that users had downloaded over five million apps for the Smart TV.

The app uses WiFi for realtime broadcasting of TV content to your phone, making the TV everywhere concept more of a reality. The app looks like a really useful tool rather than a little used novelty that most phone apps become. Lets just hope Samsung release an app for all smartphones in the future.

  2. Hi.
Its not true. You ca not stream content from phone to the TV with dual view. You can also not watch another chanel on your phone than the TV set. Also the web browser on the Samsung smart tv is a big joke not worth the effort trying to use it and the same yes for the apps. It is a beautiful TV with great picture quality but its not smart (should be named dumbtv) and dual view is pretty useless aswell…..
